2010 Petrucci

Tasting notes
Deep ruby. Same modernist approach as the 2011, but the nose is more genuinely Sangiovese, with cherry, hints of undergrowth and oak. Oak is still very much the most distinct feature on the palate while the fruit manages to remain juicy, vibrant, minerally and crunchy and long. Some drying oak tannins on the finish. (WS)

The 2010 Orcia Petrucci is a pure expression of Sangiovese. This is a pleasurable and rich red wine with bright berry intensity and loads of spice, balsam herb and tobacco at the back. You'd hardly peg this dark and thickly extracted style to the Sangiovese grape. But you do get a touch of bright acidity on the close that keeps the palate refreshed and underlines the wine's varietal typicity.
One of the unquestioned stars of the vintage, the 2010 Petrucci is simply stunning. Today, the 2010 is understandably quite young and structured, but the wine's finesse is impossible to miss. Dark cherries, savory herbs, licorice, mint and fennel form a mosaic of nearly indescribable beauty. Mid weight and gracious, yet deep and utterly vivid in the glass, the 2010 Petrucci is breathtaking in its beauty. It is also one of the finest wines I have ever tasted at Podere Forte. An eternal finish rounds things out in style. Wow!
