Score 87/100 · Drink 2018-2030, Neal Martin, Jan 2019

The 2008 Pibran has a rich, opulent bouquet of wild strawberry, raspberry, black olive and cedar aromas, almost Saint-Émilion in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, ripe tannins that render it malleable. This is more forward than the 2007, although it doesn’t quite possess the same backbone and complexity, and a scintilla of greenness comes through on the aftertaste. Drink now. Tasted at the Pibran vertical at Château Pichon-Baron.

Bit of sweet oak on the nose. Then a bit green and skinny on the palate. (JR)

'We have unilaterally seceded from the confused Cru Bourgeois organisation and it is vinified at Pichon', Christian Seely. Dense purplish crimson. Low key nose. Rather spiky with lots of acidity. Good fruit in the middle but a very dry, austere finish. Not succulent. (JR)
