Tasting notes
The engaging Chiara Boschis has fashioned a wine with a particularly lively, healthy colour and aromatic although the oak is still evident. Full, smooth, modern on the palate with ripe fruit hiding tannins well. Flashy and atypical but a favourable impression of concentrated, low-yielding Nebbiolo and most impressive length of flavour. This estate has undergone a complete transformation under the inspired proprietress, Chiara Boschis. The 1997 is a gorgeous wine, but, unfortunately, very little was produced (about 13,000 bottles). Aged in 100% new barriques, and bottled with neither fining nor filtration, it is a full-bodied, rich, structured, garnet/ruby-colored effort offering an emerging bouquet of rose petals, cherries, leather, spice box, and tobacco. Powerful, concentrated, pure, dense, and moderately tannic, it is not as flashy and precocious as many of its peers, but is unquestionably a classic. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020.
