Score 89/100 · Drink 2013-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2011

The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny flows with layers of perfumed fruit. The fine tannins balance the fruit quite nicely and add grip to the long, delicate finish. This appears to be an early-drinking wine that will deliver considerable pleasure over the next few years. The Chambolle was bottled in February 2010.

Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019. I tasted the following wines with Charles Van Canneyt, Alain Hudelot’s grandson. Van Canneyt showed me a few 2008s before moving into the 2009s. The estate did some chaptalization in 2008. Based on the selection of wines I tasted, that may have robbed some of the 2008s of their vintage character. Vintage 2009 seems to have played more to the estate’s strengths. The estate used 50% new oak for the Grand Crus and 30% for the 1ers. Importer: Atherton Imports, Menlo Park, CA; tel. (650) 328-6639

Clear ruby. Seville notes, quite pure. Beautifully direct and true. Grapefruit and satsuma, bold, vivid bright fruit that seems to slash across the palate. Polished tannin, so vibrant. Delicious. (TC)

Medium red. Tangy red fruits, spices, minerals, rose petal and white pepper on the nose. Supple, juicy and pure; not particularly complex but richer than usual for this cuvee, with good cut and persistence.
