The 2004 Nuit Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots was served from a magnificent double magnum by Marie-Andrée herself. It felt stalky at first but evolved with aeration to a mixture of red and black fruit, undergrowth and bay leaf, nicely proportioned if not the most powerful aromatics you are ever going to meet. The palate is clearly well balanced with fine tannin. The acidity is well judged and there is good weight on the pure, elegant finish that has a Vosne-like sensuality. Probably provenance and large format had a part to play in its performance, nevertheless it is still an excellent wine. Tasted November 2016.

Good bright medium red. Darker aromas of black- and redcurrant. Supple and sweet, with brisk, nicely integrated acidity giving the berry and spice flavors definition and verve. Not especially fleshy but pure, stylish and persistent. Bracing without being green.

Very light nose but true colour. Bright, clear, energetic palate hit. Lots of structure but this seems vibrant enough to carry it. Not at all sweet – very correct Burgundy! Should not disappoint. True expression of vintage and place. (JR)

Bright, dark red. Very pure, blacker aromas of cassis, violet and licorice. Juicy, sweet, intensely flavored and penetrating, with noteworthy precision and verve. Less fleshy than the Feusselottes but succulent and pristine. Lingering finish offers a hint of leather.
