Deep ruby/plum-hued, the 2010 Château Poujeaux offers a rock-solid perfume of blackcurrants, smoky tobacco, black cherries, and leafy tobacco. This carries to a medium to full-bodied wine that is beautifully balanced and structured, drinking well today yet with 15-20 years of prime drinking ahead. Drink 2025-2045.

Made of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet colored 2010 Poujeaux features notions of sweaty leather, baked plums and crème de cassis with hints of sautéed herbs and tobacco. Medium-bodied, the palate is a little lean and chewy, with an herbal lift on the finish.
Tasted blind. Very dark, bricky at the rim. Ripe and slightly exotic in its ripeness. Black olives, too. And a slightly stemmy/herbal character. Chewy, thick and rather chunky in texture. It has plenty of fruit there still but it’s a bit tough on the finish. (JH)

About the producer
The Cuvelier family, which also owns Clos Fourtet, purchased this estate in 2008. It is one of the stars of the appellation, renowned for producing wine that is well above the standard of its neighbours.
