Score 92/100 · Drink 2003-2007, Robert Parker, Feb 1993

The 1988 will not be a long-lived Petit-Village. Prospective purchasers should consider the fact that it will probably have to be drunk within its first decade of life. But, oh what pleasure it will provide! There is no doubting the sumptuous, seductive character of this super-concentrated yet velvety 1988. Its dark ruby/purple color suggests ripeness and extract. The huge aroma of exotic spices, bacon fat, jammy plums and smoky, toasty new oak is a complete turn-on. This heady, concentrated, splendidly extracted Pomerol is all velvet and suppleness. Anticipated maturity: Now-2000.
