Score 87-89/100 · Drink 2016-2026, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2014

Bernard Dugat's 2011 Pommard La Levriere Vieilles Vignes stands out for its length and energy. There is plenty of persistence, but the tannins are a bit astringent, which is not unusual in the Côte de Beaune, where many wines are lacking in mid-palate depth, as is the case here. The 2011 was done with 60% whole clusters and aged in 60% new oak.

(80-year-old vines): Good deep red. High-toned but restrained nose hints at black cherry. Rich but tight and dry, finishing with solid tannins. A rather awkward showing today.

60% whole bunch, 50% new oak. First grapes to be picked each year. Very rich and broad. Massively fruity and flattering. Pretty chewy on the end. Very solid, ambitious and classic old style. Lots of tannin on the end. (JR)
