The 1975 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Bello was bigger and richer, with a more California vibe in its black currants, licorice, and spice-drive aromas and flavors. Unfortunately, it had a subtle corky/off note that developed with time in the glass yet it still offers ample fruit, depth, and texture.

96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot. From magnum. While I admit the 1985 is a more sophisticated, comparatively perfect wine, in this vertical of Monte Bello the 1975 is my favourite. It is in the perfect place to drink now. Just a hint of mustiness on the nose is easily forgotten to reveal well-integrated spice on a body of red fruits and gunmetal, herbal lift, and a background of white mushrooms. Abundant acidity is undergirded by what I can only describe as a kind of briny-plum character that is pleasant and lengthy through the finish. What a treat. (ECB)

Sadly, the 1975 Monte Bello is slightly corked. Even so, it retains good freshness, integrity of color and nuance for a wine of its age, which makes its corked state all the more tragic. Paul Draper adds that 1975 was a very cold year. Alcohol was just 11.9%.
