Tasting notes
As usual, Donnhoff’s generically labeled 2004 Riesling trocken comes from the Oberhauser Felsenberg, and was in this instance not harvested until late October. Black fruit and herb aromas lead to a glossy, juicy, refreshing palate presence, with a brothy suffusion of minerals and a clear, focused finish, but not at the expense of some real richness. Like all of this estate’s dry wines, it isn’t imported by Donnhoff’s U.S. agent. Donnhoff can only supply his importer so much wine, and under those circumstances, Terry Theise understandably prefers not to sacrifice any amount of off-dry Riesling. Importer: Terry Theise Estate Selections, imported by Michael Skurnik Wines, Inc., Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300
