Tasting Notes
80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. Batailley make reliably good wines year in and year out and 2012 is no exception. This is fully ripe with plump blackberry fruit on the nose, medium body and supple tannins. Good concentration and very clean. Exactly as it should be. FINE+RARE

From the famous chateau estate of the Casteja family, the 2012 Batailley is a very strong effort. This is a big-time sleeper of the vintage. A dense purple wine with loads of creme de cassis, blueberry notes, background forest floor and cedar, this is a strong effort from Batailley and may well usher in a new era for this fifth-growth chateau that is capable of producing great wine. The tannins are sweet and the wine has an opulence and richness that is rare for a Medoc in 2012. Drink it over the next 25 years. Apr 2015, www.robertparker.com
About the producer

It was on the site of Batailley in 1453 that one of the final battles (or “batailles”) of the Hundred Years’ War took place. Today owned by the Castéja family, the Fifth Growth is renowned for producing wine that is the epitome of classic Claret.
