Tasting notes
Tasted at the Trotanoy dinner at Sketch in London. The 1978 Trotanoy was served blind by our host, I am so pleased that he did, because it opened my eyes to what is supposed to be a lesser vintage for the estate. It has a sublime, lilting bouquet of warm summer fruit, singed leather and dried orange peel. It is not a complex wine on the palate, but it is nicely balanced, mellow and with a pleasing, strict, foursquare finish, cedar lingering on the aftertaste. Tasted September 2012.

About the producer

Château Trotanoy was one of the first recognised Premier Cru sites on the Pomerol plateau, with records dating back to the late 1700s. Even back in the nineteenth century it was seen as the best site in Pomerol second only to Vieux Château Certan.
