Tasting notes
The 2005 Barolo is developing into a real jewel. Dark, expressive and deep in the glass, the 2005 possesses striking depth allied to power. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2005 is just beginning to develop the early signs of aromatic complexity. Ideally, the 2005 should be cellared for a bit more time. This is a superb effort.

Mid youthful ruby. Reticent on the nose but there is clearly a lot going on – and vibrantly – underneath. Admirable freshness. Pretty dry on the end. Unfortunately I think this was served just a little too warm to shine – a lesson here! (JR)
Medium red. Cherry and spices on the nose. Highly perfumed if a bit lean in the mouth, offering good cut but finishing with some dry tannins. A wine of very good but not outstanding concentration. Very nebbiolo but not a fleshy style. (A second bottle showed a more animal character and finished similarly dry-edged, meriting 88 points.)
Mid ruby. Rich nose. Rich and vibrant. Chewy finish. (JR)
