Tasting notes
The 1999 Barolo, the regular bottling, with much chocolate, minerals, and tar in the nose, shows good power and length but a somewhat tannic structure and some hardness of texture. It will need time, and should be drunk between 2006 and 2015. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. Full medium red. Aromas of nuts, mocha, camphor and underbrush. Sweet on entry, then tougher in the middle palate, with a slight rusticity. Has solid material but could be a bit more primary. Finishes with rather strong, dusty tannins. Will this wine lose its fruit before the tannins soften?
