Score 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Nov 2009

Medium red. Strawberry, dried flowers and spices on the perfumed nose. Complex and expressive in the mouth, with the red fruits and spices joined by musky underbrush. In a gentler style than the 2006, finishing with softer tannins and a suggestion of almost Oriental spices. Juicy acidity contributes to the elegance of this Barolo.

The 2005 Barolo a multi-commune wine made from vineyards in Monforte, Serralunga and Castiglione Falletto. It is a terrific, over-achieving wine in this vintage, with plenty of persistence in its dark cherries, prunes and spices, all of which meld together in a harmonious, beautifully balanced Barolo of the highest level. The tannins remain quite firm, so patience is the key.

The Barolos and Barbarescos in particular are wonderful. A Leonardo Lo Cascio Selection, Winebow, Montvale, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620
