Tasting notes
The 2001 Barolo is rich, dark and seductive. Flowers, sweet herbs, licorice, tar and plums are some of the many notes that emerge from this deep, fleshy Barolo. The 2001 possesses tons of vibrancy and muscle, along with the sheer stuffing to drink well for another decade. Once again, Pio Cesare’s straight Barolo is an overachiever that seldom gets the recognition it deserves. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021. Importer: Maisons Marques & Domaines USA, Inc., Oakland, CA; tel. (510) 587-2000

Made from a blend of parcels in various parts of the zone, the house's Barolo normale offers a classic, somewhat austere profile. It opens with pretty, balsamic nose that is followed by sweet dark fruit and tar flavors that develop in the glass with notable length, persistence and freshness on the finish. It will drink well to at least age 20.
