Score 91/100 · Drink 2012-2020, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Nov 2019

Crushed stone and pencil shavings mark the nose of the 2009 Hunting Hill Chardonnay, which just lacks the ripeness and richness of the top vintages. It's still a fine, medium-bodied wine, with a silky texture and a long finish.

The 2009 Hunting Hill Chardonnay offers beeswax, yellow flowers and jasmine on the nose, hints of egg whites and almond developing with time. The palate is taut with a twist of sour lemon on the entry. Fresh acidity lends vibrancy and vigor, and the sappy, almost Muscadet-like, oyster-shell finish lingers in the mouth. Very fine. Tasted at the Kumeu River Chardonnay vertical in London.

Deep straw. Ripe and a tiny bit blobby. This would give enormous pleasure if served in isolation but is not razor-sharp compared to other vintages. (JR)
