Score 88-90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2006

Medium-deep red with ruby highlights. Slightly sauvage aromas of dark fruits, smoky oak and underbrush. Sappy, closed and a bit youthfully austere, with a strong component of smoky oak dominating today. In a rather severe style. A bit medicinal and tough on the back. Compared to this the Saint-Georges is downright round.
