The 2008 Lupicaia is striking in this vintage. Plums, black cherries, espresso, mocha and grilled herbs are some of the many notes that jump from the glass in this flashy, extroverted wine. The 2008 is a baby, but it has all of the ingredients necessary to develop into a splendid wine. Mint, crushed flowers and licorice linger on the gorgeous finish. This is a great showing, even if the wine is a bit closed in on itself. The 2008 is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2023. ||Castello del Terriccio doesn’t seem to get a lot of love in the press these days, but the wines are stunning. This is a fabulous set of wines from proprietor Gian Annibale Rossi di Medelana and consulting oenologist Carlo Ferrini. Wine Advocate.June, 2012
