Medium dark ruby, with a garnet hue. Aromas of blackberry, with light mushroom and earth. Full, soft and round-textured, with pretty fruit and a medium finish. A caressing, pleasing wine. Hasn't changed since I tasted it 10 years ago. '88/'98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008). Drink now. James Suckling,Wine Spectator2009

The bouquet of the 1988 Magdelaine is understated, but the wine exhibits fine ripeness and intensity, along with attractive cherry fruit intertwined with toasty new oak. Anticipated maturity: 1995-2005. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 85
