Zesty fruity nose and relatively simple. Talcy tannins. Chewy finish but a bit lifeless. (JR)

The finest wine I have tasted from this estate in many years, the 2012 Cap de Mourlin possesses more density, richness and potential than most past vintages. Barbecue smoke, graphite, black currant and tar-tinged black cherry aromas jump from the glass of this opaque purple-colored 2012. It is one of the few blockbuster, powerful, dense, muscular/masculine wines of the vintage. There is abundant tannin in the finish, but the balance is there. Forget this wine for 2-3 years and drink it over the following 12-15.

Inky with black core. Malty blackcurrant aroma. Firm, dark, dry and nicely savoury on the finish. Rich without excess sweetness. (JH)
