The 2006 Stonewell Shiraz shows a bit too much oak on the nose, overshadowing the fruit. It's a big, full-bodied wine with attractive toasted wood, cigar box and attenuated berry flavors, lacking the depth of fruit to handle the drying oak that lingers on the finish. Drink up.

Dense and sort of satisfying in an immediate way, but not hugely interesting beyond the wall of fruit. Compared with the likes of Jamsheed, Yarra Yering and Glaetzer-Dixon Mon Père, this seems unexciting. (RH)

Inky purple. Blackberry, cherry-vanilla, oak spices and licorice on the highly fragrant nose. Deep, sweet and creamy but with good juicy character and spicy lift to its dark fruit compote, vanilla and licorice flavors. Really stains the palate. Finishes long, with velvety tannins and very good clarity, the licorice and spice notes repeating.
