Winemaker Andrew Wigan. Fruit from around a dozen of the finest and oldest vineyards in the Barossa Valley, aged for 18 months in oak hogsheads (90% French, 10% US). Sweet, rich baking spice on the nose. Gingerbread-edged dark fruit. Very sweet plums but tastes almost like a sweet wine even though it is dry. Orange and spice flavours. Tannins are fine, increasing the elegance on the palate. (JH)

More concentrated than the 2000, with a deeper color, the 2001 Shiraz reveals greater ripeness in the nose, and cuts a plusher, fuller, fleshier swath on the palate.
