Tasting notes
The 1996 Barbaresco Vigneto Starderi's deep ruby color is followed by an explosive nose of sweet cherry liqueur, vanillin, and wood smoke. This full-bodied, highly-extracted, intense, sexy, moderately tannic wine is powerful yet well-balanced. Despite its ability to improve for 10-15 years, it is easy to drink at present. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300, Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. (773) 334-6700, and Estate Wines, Ltd., San Rafael, CA; tel. (415) 492-9411

Very good deep red. Red fruit, mint, flowers, and strong cedary, nutty oak on the nose. Big, rich, sweet and a bit minty; expressive high tones in the mouth. A bit tough today, with the tannins dominating.
