65% 70-year-old Grenache, 35% Syrah. Single-vineyard bottling – new. When they arrived in 1995 they did some geological tests. ‘We were pioneers. Needed to correct farming and clones, so we did some micro vinifications. Took five to 10 years to isolate a single vineyard.’ Limestone. Very deep crimson. Very well-mannered nose. Nicely integrated. Very tender wine. Fermentation in concrete with long skin contact. Mulberries. Very charming. Not obviously Maury really! (JR)

Lots of Grenache with some Syrah – one of their few blends. Roussillon is the ‘French vineyard of the future’. No wood at all. Bare concrete tanks for fermentation. Want to save the potential by storing calories. ‘If you keep the temperature too high it can be jammy; if it’s too low, it can be green.’ Dark velvety crimson. Very young and almost raw. Big and gamey. Chewy scrawny finish. (JR)
