Tasting notes
The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Tenuta Friggiali is a pretty, soft wine best suited to drinking over the next few years. Sweet red cherries, tobacco, spices and vanillin are layered into the supple, inviting finish. Overall the 2007 Riserva is attractive, but not especially exciting. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. Mid ruby with orange rim. Very closed, hints of liquorice. Quite ripe fruit, but still got some life ahead of it. Big. (WS)
Bright medium red. Aromas of redcurrant, raspberry and smoke. Supple and sweet if a bit diffuse; plenty of flesh and texture here, as well as a lightly saline quality, but could use a bit more fresh fruit and lift. The slightly dry finish turned dustier with time in the glass.
The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino caresses the palate with sweet red cherries, camphor, exotic spices, licorice and mint. It shows lovely aromatic complexity and softness in an approachable style best suited for drinking over the next few years. This is a terrific showing for the Friggiali. The 2007 spent 35 months in French oak.
