2007 Brunello di Montalcino

Medium red. Slightly reduced aromas of plum, mocha, leather and earth, with some rustic gamey low tones. Supple and seamless on entry, with flavors of dark fruits, menthol and licorice, then a bit spiky in the middle, with some herbal and menthol qualities carrying through to a rather dry, tannic finish. A wine of modest depth and lift, in need of more fruit intensity.

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful, fleshy wine. Layers of dark red fruit, licorice, spices and tobacco emerge from the glass in this sumptuous, extroverted Brunello. All of the elements are very nicely balanced through to the long, deeply resonant finish. The 2007 Brunello spent a year in small and medium-sized barrels and completed its aging in cask.
