The stern, austere 1995 Brunello di Montalcino is monolithic, but does offer earthy black cherry fruit intertwined with dried herbs, spice, and leather. While medium-bodied, it is a bit pinched in the finish. Importer: Langdon Shiverick, Cleveland, OH; tel. (216) 861-6800

Good dark garnet color. Sweet plummy aroma complicated by enticing notes of resin and chocolate. Fresh, fruity and round on the palate; nicely balanced and consistent. The wine's intensity carries into its lingering aftertaste.
