The 1982 Brunello di Montalcino is the first wine that shows the Soldera style in its early incarnation. Persistent and full of energy, the 1982 is superb tonight. Bright red-toned fruit, mint and white pepper lend tons of upper register resonance to a classy, polished Brunello that dazzles. Readers lucky enough to own the 1982 are in for a quite a treat, as it is an historically significant wine for the estate. It’s time to drink any remaining bottles, as this is certainly not going to improve.

One of Soldera's most profound wines, the 1982 Brunello di Montalcino is superb today. Bright red stone fruit, cranberry, blood orange, mint and wild flowers give the 1982 much of its deep, textured personality. Even after all these years, the 1982 retains tons of freshness, energy and intensity.

The 1982 Brunello di Montalcino is one of Gianfranco Soldera’s early masterpieces. A rush of sweet red cherry and plum notes open up first in a deep, vertical Brunello endowed with superb balance and pure class. Creamy, silky and wonderfully open-knit, the 1982 will drink well for at least another decade, perhaps more.

Things get much more serious with the 1982 Brunello di Montalcino, which I have never tasted from magnum. What a wine! What else can I say? Not much. Huge, bright and tannic on the palate, the 1982 exudes magnificent purity in its expression of Sangiovese. This is a classic 1982, with tons of energy and structure, two of the principal signatures of the year. The 1982 doesn’t have the mid-palate depth of Soldera’s very best wines, but it is still hypnotic and mesmerizing,
