Deep youthful ruby. A little dusty from the oak, and not ready yet by far, judging from the youthful nose. Fine black olive notes and hints of orange and tamarind. Complex. Quite rich but not overtly sweet. Great length with bitter tannin. Should be cellared. (WS)

Deep ruby, still quite youthful. Mediterranean herbs, sweet dark fruit and a hint of leather. Very good integrated oak. Shows some development on the nose too with hints of tobacco. Velvety tannins support a generous dose of dark fruit. Not the most complex but ageworthy all the same. (WS)
The 2007 Rosso del Conte is the estate's flagship. After a period of experimentation, Rosso del Conte is now back to being predominantly Nero d'Avola, with a 5% dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It shows marvelous richness and intensity in a slightly cool, reserved style relative to some of the more exuberant vintages. Mint, roasted espresso beans and mocha add complexity to the beautifully delineated, polished fruit. The 2008 is a gorgeous Rosso del Conte, but it needs time. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028. From top to bottom this is an impressive set of wines from Tasca d'Almerita. The estate seems to have honed in on a refined style across the entire range.
