Tasting notes
Bottle brought by Stephen Browett of Farr Vintners. First vintage of the renaissance. Something a bit vegetal about the nose of this wine. Sinewy and firmer than some later vintages. (JR)

Medium ruby-purple-colored, the 2012 Block 3 Pinot Noir is a little closed at this youthful moment yet reveals subtle notes of mulberries and black cherries with underlying suggestions of damp earth, aniseed, cloves and cedar. Medium-bodied and very taut at this stage, it delivers a great intensity of fruit while remaining elegantly styled by a lively acid backbone and low to medium level of fine tannins. It finishes with great length. Drink it 2015 to 2022+. Importers: Martin Scott Wines, Ltd., Lake Success, NY, tel. (516) 327-0808; Youngs Market, CA; tel. Dark crimson. Distinctively intense and mineral. Very sinewy and with sparkling fruit that's intense rather than sweet. Dense. Lovely lift and length. (JR)
Good full, deep red. Cherry, raspberry, mocha and blood orange on the nose, plus a hint of smoky minerality. Concentrated, savory and suave, with good ripeness and restrained sweetness to the flavors of raspberry and spices. Offers impressive silkiness and palate presence. Finishes with dusty tannins and lovely lingering spicy perfume.
