Score 92/100 · Drink 1994, Robert Parker, Jan 1990
The 1988 Grands Echezeaux, which I find to be Mongeard's best wine almost every year, has to take second place to his Richebourg. Perhaps it is because the Grands Echezeaux needs 2-3 years in the bottle to shed some of its tannin. It is a magnificent wine and is extremely concentrated and fabulously perfumed. It has excellent color and a very long, intense finish. In 4-5 years time it should rival the great wines Mongeard made from this Grand Cru in 1985 and 1983.
