Score 90-92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2013

(12.8% following chaptalization): Bright, deep purple color. Slightly reduced aromas and flavors of blackberry, bitter chocolate, licorice and violet. Dense and spicy in the mouth, with lively acidity framing the black fruit flavors and underscoring the impression of serious spine. Long on the aftertaste. These virused clones, planted in 1975, produced a very small crop in 2011. "Every year I think about pulling them out," said Philippe Drouhin.

Just two pièces. Very dense crimson. Parcel that’s very low yielding – especially in 2012 but usually low too. Hardly economic. A real cloud of impressively ripe and concentrated wine. Then firm and bittersweet on the end. Firmer than most Cortons. Very fine. Great concentration and balance. Very fine tannins. (JR)
