The 1989 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a wine I have not seen for several years. To be honest, I always prefer the off-vintages for their whites in this decade. This bottle displays a slight flor-like scent on the nose, which I find distracting. The palate is nicely balanced with a fine bead of acidity. It's not a complex, dry white Bordeaux yet it has a pleasant lemon thyme-tinged finish. Drink soon.

An intense oakiness remains noticeable in this 1989, which has never been as exciting as the estate’s reputation would indicate. Notes of wet stones, cold steel, Provencal herbs, and underripe peach and melon characteristics are still dominated by wood. This medium-bodied effort is a bit short in the finish. Anticipated maturity: now-2010. Last tasted, 6/02.
