Score 97/100 · Drink 2015-2030, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2015

The 1999 Langhe Arborina is one of the many highlights in this tasting. A huge, vertical wine, the 1999 is endowed with serious structure and enough depth to drink well for another 10-15 years, perhaps longer. Dark red cherry jam, plum, spice and wild flowers flow through to the huge finish.

(all nebbiolo) Ruby-red. Reticent aromas of roasted cherry, fresh herbs, brown spices and nutty oak; hints of nebbiolo surmaturite Fat, rich, broad and sweet, but not yet as filled in as the Larigi or La Villa bottlings. Showing its 14.9% alcohol today, not to mention its oak element. But this powerful wine is extremely backward today and more about earthy, nutty, herbal terroir than about primary fruit. Finishes with huge, ripe, furry tannins that will require patience.
