Good deep red. Cool aromas of sappy blackberry, licorice and smoked meat. Sweet, dense, fat and full, with hints of dark berries, coffee and game. Impressively broad for a village wine. Finishes with firm tannic backbone and late notes of leather and game. An excellent village wine.

The spicy 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is medium-bodied, lively, and well-balanced. Black pepper and blackberries can be found in its expressive core. A slight hint of bitterness in the finish kept the score from being higher. Projected maturity: now-2011. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083

Deep ruby-red. Superripe aromas of black cherry and chocolatey oak. Fat, sweet and full, with an impression of soft acidity. Nicely spicy wine with a strong, ripely tannic finish.
