Score 88/100 · Drink 2018-2028, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Apr 2021

The 2001 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes harks back to the Dugat-Py style of yesteryear, wafting from the glass with a rich bouquet of smoked meats, dark chocolate, plums, blackcurrants and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, muscular and extracted, with chalky tannins and tangy acids, it's a characterful wine that isn't as elegant as today's wines from this domaine—even if it works well at table with the right dish.

Ironically, the 2001 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is produced from some of the estate’s youngest vines, ranging from 30 to 40-years old. Dark-colored, and sporting a spicy, blackberry-scented nose, it is light to medium-bodied, fresh, and expressive. Loads of lively black fruits dominate its forward, flavorful personality. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. Jun 2003, www.robertparker.com
