Score 83/100 · Drink 2019-2020, Neal Martin, Dec 2019

The 1979 Canon-la-Gaffelière is fully mature in color. The nose is rather faded and reminds me of an old leather armchair; some VA forms with time. The palate is balanced and quite leathery with dry tannins, but at least there is decent length. Drink bottles soon. Tasted blind at "Xmas" lunch in London.

Ready to drink, the 1979 Canon-La-Gaffeliere is soft, slightly herbaceous, medium bodied, pleasantly fruity, but undistinguished. Anticipated maturity: Now-probably in serious decline. Last tasted, 2/84.
