Score 84/100 · Drink 2017-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jun 2017

Tasted at the Académie du Vin dinner in Bordeaux, the 1957 Canon la Gaffeliere felt austere on the nose, with hints of dark berry fruit, cigar box and damp undergrowth aromas. With further time in the glass, there was a suggestion of melted tar. The palate is simple but balanced, with dry tannin but soft in terms of mouthfeel, and just light remnants of black fruit on the pleasant, if slightly dusty finish. This is holding onto life by just a couple of fingers, so drink soon if you see any bottles. Tasted April 2017.
