Vivid ruby. Intense, mineral-accented aromas of red and dark berries, licorice and cracked pepper. Gains spiciness and florality with air and shows impressive energy and silky texture. Zesty acidity adds cut to the finish, which leaves traces of minerals and cracked pepper behind. I really like this wine's energy.

The 2008 Malleolus comes from older vines and spent 18 months in French oak. It gives up a promising nose of pain grille, mineral, espresso, violets, and blackberry. This is followed by a tannic, savory offering with just enough fruit for balance. It will benefit from 2-3 years of additional cellaring to melt some of the tannins and will drink nicely through 2023.
