Score 89/100 · Drink 2016-2026, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Aug 2016

The 2011 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir has a backward, reticent bouquet--sultry and introspective at the moment, just a faint touch of sea spray emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, a hint of grilled almond and walnut coming through on the finish and a dash of white pepper lingering on the aftertaste. It needs a little cohesion, but fingers crossed that will come with further bottle age.

The 2011 Chablis Vaudesir is one the more implosive, packed wines in the range. This is a surprisingly massive wine with little of the immediacy of the year. Readers will have to be patient. Today it is the wine's pure energy and concentration that speak loudest.

Good pale yellow. High-pitched, very reticent nose dominated by musky minerals, fresh herbs and pepper, plus a whiff of petrol. Minerally, closed and very dry in spite of a rather silky texture; still some CO2 to be absorbed. This is dominated by its structure today and is very hard to taste.

Layers of juicy yellow stone fruits, smoke, almonds, oak, ash, licorice and wild flowers wrap around the palate as the 2011 Chablis Vaudesir fleshes out in the glass. It possesses marvelous textural richness and depth, partially supported by the 40% use of oak, which adds a measure of textural volume and depth. Rich layers of honeyed, expansive fruit power through to the finish. At the moment, the oak is a bit noticeable, both in texture and flavor.
