Score 86/100 · Drink 1990-1996, Robert Parker, Jan 1990
The 1988 Savigny-Les-Beaune Les Serpentieres has a very supple, smooth, velvety, deep, bing cherry fruitiness as well as a nice touch of spicy oak intertwined with a whiff of herbs. It is perhaps slightly fuller than Les Jarrons, but just as soft, and should be consumed over the next 4-6 years. Ecard is one of the top producers in Savigny-Les-Beaune. He seems to consistently produce wines of great elegance and delicious fruit. It is unlikely that they will age past 7-8 years, but for drinking in the near future, they are full of charm, finesse, and character. His 1988s are quite successful, and are slightly more concentrated and fuller than his very fine 1987s.
