Ruby-red. Aromas of mulled cider; like a liqueur of spices, with a whiff of damp earth. Broad and exotic on the palate, with currant and spice flavors. Not cooked but not Burgundian either. Finishes a bit tired, with substantial, slightly dry tannins. This was considerably fresher from barrel. (Mortet noted at this point that he was purposely not showing me "the monsters" en Champs and au Velle, both with alcohol of 15%.)

Bright ruby-red. Pure, sappy aromas of blackberry, espresso and licorice. A step up in concentration and thrust over the foregoing examples, with juicy flavors framed and enlivened by bright acids. This is less 2003 in style and finishes with firm tannic spine. Here's a village wine that will call for a few years of aging.
