Blend of Sauvignon Gris, Gros Manseng, Mondeuse Blanche and Savagnin. Most unusual blend from the Médoc. Clear glass bordeaux bottle. Pale gold. Quite rich nose with some lanolin and tightness on the palate. Hint of honey and lots of demanding Savagnin austerity. Still quite youthful. May yet reveal more charms! (JR)
A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot from the northern Médoc village of Cussac, this 2012 has a saturated ruby/purple color and offers sweet crème de cassis, touches of earth and licorice, and background barrique smells. It is medium-bodied, dense, and one of the more concentrated cru bourgeois 2012s I tasted. The tannins are ripe and the wine impressive. Drink it over the next 10 years or so. A sleeper of the vintage.
Very modern, forthright fruit – really 'New World' – and it has some pretty flashy oak too. Very fine tannic structure. This has been very precisely styled, and the result is very enjoyable, in a mainstream sort of way. (RH)
