Yes, this was a difficult vintage, but the 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova seems to be afflicted with more than one woe. The wine opens to oxidized aromas of smoked bacon and old leather. There's not much to salvage here. This wine has moved way past its prime.

I am in love with the decadent character in this wine. This is sexy stuff. Full bodied, soft and round with just the right amount of tannins to hold it all in. I love this. <br />
Good, lively crimson. Strong mulch character – very appetising. Relatively delicate for a Brunello, but very good balance. Fine tannins. (JR)
The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova, from newer vineyards near Castelnuovo dell-Abate in the southern part of Montalcino, is sweet, spicy, and weighty on the nose, with the aromas given additional push and penetration from the alcohol.
