Good full, deep red. Superripe aromas of dark raspberry and exotic blood orange; as sweet as this smells, there's still good vineyard character. Fat, chewy, sweet and very rich, with superripe but reasonably fresh flavors of outstanding density. Finishes with huge but even tannins that coat the entire palate.

**Note: from a .45 ha parcel situated at the very top of the vineyard** I've commented many times that Arnoux is the reference standard for this vineyard and so it is again in 2003 as the Suchots is more interesting than either the Ech or the Clos de Vougeot even if it doesn't offer the same raw power or size and weight. The tannins are finer and smoother with simply stunning complexity and delivers a rare quality for the vintage, that of finesse.

Fashioned from yields 50% below normal, the 2003 Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots boasts a mouth-watering, intensely aromatic nose of waxy black cherries, spices, and chocolate. As this broad wine enters the mouth it instantly envelopes the palate with candied dark fruits. Concentrated, medium to full-bodied, and velvety-textured, this admirably persistent effort lingers in the finish, displaying additional layers of red fruits intermingled with ripe tannin. Projected maturity: 2009-2020. Importer: Neal Rosenthal Wine Merchant, New York, NY; tel. (800) 910-1990

Good ruby-red. More exotic nose combines black raspberry, cocoa powder, violet and sexy oak spices. Silky and supersweet in the mouth, with rich, nicely delineated black fruit, spice and floral flavors. Finishes with lush tannins and explosive fruit and spice. Are these tannins sweeter or does this wine simply possess more fat?
