The 1995 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is quite a deep amber hue, which is no surprise at 24 years of age. The striking nose offers copious mango, orange peel and light adhesive scents, forward and vivacious. The palate is well balanced and quite Barsac-like in style, perhaps not quite achieving the quality level of the aromatics, but undoubtedly fresh and lively. Tangy marmalade and quince intermingle with ginger and pineapple on the finish, where I might have liked more persistence. Otherwise, this is a delicious, uncomplicated yet satisfying Lafaurie-Peyraguey. Tasted at Brat restaurant from a bottle sourced from a London cellar.
