Tasting notes
Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Morey Saint Denis Clos des Rosier from Domaine Chantal Remy has an attractive, somewhat "cool" bouquet with blackberry and cranberry leaf, reserved but focused. So far, so pretty. The palate is medium-bodied with light tart red fruit, touches of fresh strawberry and tangy spice, through missing some substance and tension towards the flat-footed finish. I am still wondering whether there is just a tiny amount of brettanomyces affecting this wine? That aside, it seems nicely balanced and should be enjoyable over the next four to six years.

Formerly Dom Louis Remy. Now run by and named after Chantal Remy, Mid cherry red. Unusual smoky, earthy, tobacco aroma plus plenty of ripe cherry fruit. Almost a touch of incense. Fresh finish but a little bit reticent on the palate and not yet trying to please. (JH)
