Les Terrasses, is fashioned from both estate fruit and purchased lots of Grenache and Carignan. It is an 18,000-case blend of 30% Grenache, 55-60% Carignan, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon aged 12 months in used French and American barrels. The 2001 Les Terrasses exhibits a deep ruby color along with a bouquet offering notes of kirsch liqueur, wet steel, crushed stone, cherry liqueur, currants, and spice. Fruit-driven, open-knit, and concentrated as well as complex and elegant, this fine effort should merit an outstanding score after bottling. Importer: The Rare Wine Co., Sonoma, CA; tel. (made from estate grapes that did not make it into Alvaro Palacios' L'Ermita or Finca Dofi, plus purchased garnacha and cariñena) Red-ruby. Black fruits, licorice and tarry oak on the warm nose. Dense, sweet and full, with wild, superripe fruit flavors. Has a distinctly warm aspect but this harmonious blend also boasts plenty of character. Perhaps the best vintage yet for this wine.
