The most enjoyable for drinking now are the two 1997s, a theme that was repeated time and time again in this Australian tasting. The 1997 Shiraz Heysen did not reveal the body or plushness of the Hanisch. Exhibiting plenty of black fruit, licorice, pepper, and underbrush notes, it is a full-bodied, velvety-textured Shiraz to enjoy now. This is the home estate of Rolf Binder, one of the most talented winemakers in South Australia. As the tasting notes indicate, these wines are holding up beautifully.
